Playing fewer games might be good for the players but the owners fear that it won’t be good for the teams. Fewer games would mean less money from tickets. And with the salaries so high in the NBA it would be hard for some of the not so popular teams.
Commissioner Adam Silver has a solution for this problem. Since 2016 he is appealing for the creation of a midseason competition similar to the idea of the national cup in European football. This would allow the clubs to set their finances right, but is it going to provide rest for the players?
The decision in which is debated with the two broadcaster of the games from the NBA – ESPN and Turner Sports is going to be presented and reviewed from a commission in April next year. The idea for the new schedule is to get in practice from the next season – 2020/2021.
