Two of the best offenses in the NBA during the 1983-84 season produced one of the wildest games in NBA history on Dec. 13, 1983.
The Pistons won the historic game in triple-overtime 186-184. Isiah Thomas led the way for Detroit with 47 points, 17 assists, five rebounds and four steals. John Long added 41 points, six rebounds and eight assists.
For the Nuggets, Kiki Vandeweghe scored a game-high 51 points with nine rebounds and eight dimes. Alex English added 47 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
In total, Detroit finished 74-for-136 (54.4 percent) overall and 37-for-60 from the free throw line. Denver shot 68-for-115 (59.1 percent) from the floor and 47-for-57 from the free throw line. Despite the historic score, the teams each finished just 1-for-2 from 3-point range. For comparison, no team has attempted fewer than 15 3-pointers so far this season.
