He last boxed in November last year when he defeated Riddle Booker by points in a 10-round performance. Even then it was hinted that Pulev was the most likely contender for the heavyweight title, with only the outcome of the match between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz expected.
The British took the sought-after rematch against the Mexican, which turned out to be his 23rd victory in the professional ring (BA - 21 with a knockout). There is only one defeat in his career so far, namely from Ruiz in June 2019.

The match between Pulev and Joshua was supposed to take place in 2017, but then the Bulgarian suffered a serious injury and did not participate in the planned cardiff in Cardiff.
